OM Hungary is responding to many needs caused by human trafficking by raising awareness of its dangers in the vulnerable communities of our nation.
There are more slaves in our world today than at any other time in history. Although slavery is illegal in almost every country of the world it still exists everywhere. The reality is that at least 2 people in the world are sold or resold every minute, including 1 child every 2 minutes. Slavery never came to an end, just transformed. The methods changed, become more latent, we cannot recognise it easily. The at-risk population is no longer recruited directly by criminal networks rather by fraud and deception, taking advantage of the vulnerability of others. It is important to educate society and especially the vulnerable, creating and raising awareness of the new methods used.
Hungary is a source, transit, and destination country for men, women, and children subjected to force labour and sex trafficking. Vulnerable groups in extreme poverty, especially Roma, are sold within the country and abroad.
Here in Hungary we realise the importance of reaching out to these vulnerable people groups, to educate them about the dangers. It is also necessary to reach the authority figures in their lives (e.g., their pastors), train them, and equip them with the necessary tools so that they can protect those entrusted to them.
The only real solution is the freedom that knowing Jesus offers. If you feel called by the Lord to bring light to the darkness, hope to the hopeless, this ministry is for you.
