Position title: Director of People Services
Status: Full-time (35 hours per week).
Compensation: Assessed to align with band 3 of the OM Canada team compensation policy (2026 FTE: $4,681.80 - $6,834.00). The successful candidate will need to raise an agreed proportion of the finance required to fund this position.
This role fills a currently vacant position. AI will not be used to assess candidates for this role.
Overall Goal
This role exists to lead a team that enables flexible, effective and scalable systems and processes in order to see more Canadians involved in OM’s mission and provide appropriate support during their service with OM.
KEY RESULT AREAS (KRAS)
1. Leadership (25%)
Provide leadership for the People Services department in order to ensure staff are supported, developed and their set outcomes are achieved.
Core Activities
• Form, build and lead the People Services team in the areas of people care, human resources, personnel management and caring practices in every role.
• Lead the development of personnel systems, process and practice that are aligned with OM’s core values and are relevant to the complexity and diversity present within OM
• Work closely with Mobilization Director to develop synergy between Mobilization and People Services, to scale up the number of people serving in missions and to promote excellence in mobilising, recruiting, placement, management, training and care of personnel.
• Develop an interdepartmental plan of action for engaging with OM alumni.
• Connect with other missions in Canada to learn and share new ways of facilitating people getting involved in mission to the least reached.
• Bring People Services issues and important communications to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT).
• Identify strengths and areas of personnel practices needing correction and improvement.
• Develop and manage People Services department budget.
2. HR Management (30%)
Oversee any human resources and/or people care needs for all OM staff working in Canada including OM Canada Team staff and Embedded workers.
Core Activities
• Lead the application/onboarding process appropriately for the individual/family joining
• Assess the applicants’ suitability for OM Canada using interviews and other assessment tools as required
• Provide coaching for the applicant on support raising, spiritual and logistical preparation
• Liaise with ELT and Dept. Heads on acceptance decisions
• Communicate acceptance or refusal of potential recruits’ applications
• Facilitate the training of applicants in areas of OM core values, pre-field preparation, transition, awareness, etc.as well as provincial requirements (AODA etc)
• Supervise the process of obtaining visas for foreign workers (long-term e.g. work permits and short-term e.g. business visas)
• Assist new members in matters of transition and relocation as needed in co-operation with ministry teams and departments
• Onboard new OM Canada members to policies, procedures, team life, etc.
• Conduct regular check-in meetings with new OMer in their first year according to OM Canada onboarding process
• Facilitate other organizational departments orientation responsibilities
• Oversee the use of BambooHR, ensuring employee details are up to date and add new employees
• Liaise with Mission Coaches regarding home assignments and departures from OM
• Facilitate leaving interviews with departing OMers and feedback information to appropriate parties
• Facilitate status changes to long-termer, and commitment extensions for OMers
• Enrol new personnel in TFSA/RRSP and medical insurances as requested
• Modify and/or remove personnel from benefits and insurances as requested by Missions Coaches, and Departures Administrator
• Prepare insurance and TFSA applications for new or newly long-term employees
• Email Finance team benefits invoices and updates once per month
3. Training (20%)
Identify and recommend appropriate training in order to support Canadians joining OM and/or serving in OM Canada.
Core Activities
• Ensure training and assessment that will enable the People Services department to fulfil their role and be increasingly effective in their tasks.
• Monitor effectiveness of pre-field training and orientation for Canadians.
• Ensure flexible methods of pre-field training and orientation for Canadians.
• Support the ELT in developing ways to establish a learning culture for all OM Canada staff, people taking responsibility for their own personal development and spiritual growth.
• Research and recommend other effective training opportunities for OM Canada staff at all stages of their service with OM.
4. Compliance (10%)
Support the field in areas of federal/provincial legislation, Canadian Center of Christian Charities and OM standards of compliance in personnel matters to maintain integrity to our stakeholders and appropriately support people serving with OM.
Core Activities
• Research and stay up to date on employment and human rights laws for Canada.
• Ensure OM Canada staff are educated and have on-going training on important compliance requirements (data protection, health & safety, OM international policy on child safety, etc)
• Ensure People Services staff understand OM International standards of good practice in sending and receiving personnel
• Support the Associate Field Leader – Support Services in areas regarding compensation and benefits.

5. Ministry involvement (5%)
Ensure you are actively involved in team life at your location when possible, in order to ensure you are ministering to others and being ministered to.
Core activities
• Actively participate on a regular basis in team devotions, prayer times, meetings and social functions.
• Serve practically within the team to ensure whatever needs to be done is done well and the load is shared around.

6. Support base development (10%)
Actively develop and maintain a prayer and financial support base for your ministry with OM Canada, in order to resource your ministry and that of OM Canada with prayer and financial resources.
Core activities
• Maintain regular contact with your prayer partners, financial supporters and sending church(es) - developing relationships that minister to them and further your partnership with them.
• Develop your prayer and financial support base on a continual basis by asking individuals, groups and churches to join your support team as you have opportunity.
7. Safe working practices
Ensure work is carried out in accordance with written and verbal communicated internal and external safety, environmental and country specific legal regulation in order to ensure safe working practice.

• Ensure that both your own and the area you are working in is kept clean, orderly and safe.
• Ensure a safe and correct usage and adequate maintenance of used tools and equipment.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Preferred Values and Competencies
• Previous experience in OM preferred

Limits of Authority
Authorized to fulfill assigned tasks, research, and reporting responsibilities within established guidelines and under the supervision of the Associate Director – Support Services.
Environmental Aspects
This position may be performed at OM Canada’s head office or remotely. Occasional travel may be required.
Evaluation / Appraisal
Performance will be reviewed annually by the Associate Director - Support Services, based on achievement in the KRAs listed above.
